Welcome to Mount Vernon, Iowa! Here we showcase the historic properties within our 3 nationally recognized historic districts in the form of a self-guided walking tour. We are glad you are here and hope you enjoy the learning some historical insights into our fair city.

Are you ready to start walking and learn some cool history? Currently there are three tours available: Ash Park District, Commercial District, and the Cornell College District.

Each tour below has a starting point and progresses in a way that should give you a easy to follow stroll from property to property. NOTE: You can get directions to any property by selecting the “Map” link on the page.

Ash Park 703 6th Ave NW. This is a 2-story Queen Anne home with a large tower and a broad covered porch. The home is blue with white trim. The grounds are pleasantly planted with shrubs and flowers.
